Fight the Funk

Fighting the Inflammation Funk — From My Kitchen

For weeks, I kept buying the same things at the grocery store: lemons, limes, fresh ginger, turmeric root. And every week, I threw them away.

It had been a long season — travel, work, big life decisions. Somewhere in the middle of all of it, I started collecting new symptoms. The kind you're tempted to wave off as aging, menopause, or stress. And honestly? Those explanations aren't wrong. But they're missing the common denominator underneath all of them: inflammation.

Fighting inflammation is the heartbeat of functional and integrative nutrition. The goal is simple to say and harder to do — optimize your body's antioxidant repair system so it can actually resolve inflammatory processes before they become your new normal.

What does creeping chronic inflammation look like? Sometimes it's loud: headaches, GI flares, joint pain. More often, it moves slowly enough that you explain it away. The mysterious skin breakouts. The extra cold you never used to catch. That dull, persistent ache in your neck and shoulders. Irritability. Mild anxiety. A brain that feels just a little foggy.

We live in a golden age of solutions — traditional protocols, supplements, and every biohack TikTok has to offer. And I'll be honest: I try them all.

But here's the trap. When the brain is inflamed — neuroinflammation — it impairs the very cognitive function you need to stay the course. It makes you crave novelty. So instead of returning to your foundations, you're scrolling for the next shiny fix. I confess that's exactly what was happening to me, for months, without realizing it.

Which is why my lemons and ginger kept ending up in the trash=-(

Somewhere between the checkout line and my kitchen, my inflamed brain lost the plot. Those ingredients — powerful, simple, proven — got stuffed in a drawer and forgotten. Week after week. Until recently, something clicked. My brain came back online. I remembered what I'd been meaning to do with them.

And within days of returning to this one simple practice, my energy and clarity came back.

So here it is — the recipe that helped turn things around.

Inflammation-Fighting Concentrate

What you need:

  • 1 large mason jar (any size that fits in your fridge)

  • 2–3 lemons, chopped

  • 2–3 limes, chopped

  • 1–2 thumb-size pieces fresh ginger root, finely chopped (no need to peel)

  • 1–2 thumb-size pieces fresh turmeric root, finely chopped (no need to peel)

  • 1–2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

  • Pinch of sea salt

  • Filtered water, brought to a boil

Optional add-ins: (for sweetness if needed)

  • 1–3 tbsp honey

  • 1–2 scoops MegaPre Precision Prebiotic or MegaMucosa

  • Your favorite flavored electrolyte

To make it: Add all chopped ingredients to your jar along with the ACV and salt — the jar should be about ¾ full. Pour boiling filtered water slowly over everything until full. Let it steep at room temperature for 4–6 hours, then refrigerate once fully cooled.

How to use it: Mix the concentrate with drinking water at a 50:50 ratio. Add any extras to your glass first, then pour the concentrate over (a spatula works fine to catch any stray bits — no strainer needed). Drink a glass first thing in the morning — yes, alongside your coffee — and sip throughout the day.

That's it. Simple, foundational, effective. Sometimes the answer really was in the drawer all along.
